30 - 31 March 2023 - Biograd
Only about 500 metres from the marina entrance, there is a little market, where the stall holders are selling fruit, vegetables, cheese and honey, from their own farms. There can’t be many food miles and the quality is good. As in Sicily, last year, in March, the oranges are just superb. We are getting to know the ladies on the stalls and identifying which stall to go to for which produce. We have our favourite for the eggs already. I suspect they are collected fresh each morning. They all throw in extras, “gratis”, if you buy a reasonable amount and yesterday, with our hens eggs we were given a duck egg, so it was quite a treat to have duck egg frittata with the wild asparagus.
The level of activity in the town and the marina has really ramped up during the week. A new, wider, pavement has been laid. We visited the wine shop in town, where you can buy local wines by the bottle, or have plastic bottles filled from the cask. We happened to arrive between 11.00 & 12.00 on Thursday, which the proprietor told us was ‘Happy Hour’, when there is 15% discount. We didn’t want to go mad, until we have tasted the wines and decided which we like best, so we came away with 3 litres of wine for 6 euros. It’s very drinkable; why pay more!
Equinox is now looking much like the home we know, inside. The sails are now on. The navigation electronics are upgraded. We have moved forward the general preparations, at quite a pace, so this afternoon, while the mechanic came to complete the engine service and wanted us out of the way, we allowed ourselves time off to enjoy a good walk along the coastal path. As ever, everywhere looks beautiful in the sunshine.
Tricia (& Steve)
