13 & 14 May 2023 - Porto Montenegro

The wet weather continues. In this ‘Boka’ though, we are very sheltered from the high winds that have been sweeping through the Adriatic.

On Saturday there was a break in the rain long enough for us to take a walk around this part of the coast. The little island that our pontoon is attached to just has a church and a convent, plus some shanty town type homes. We saw the priest, dressed very similarly to those of the Greek Orthodox church, and some nuns. In fact, while walking back to the boat, we were almost run down by the nuns, in their car. I reckon that would give you a zip wire straight up to heaven, if you were run down down by nuns.

The scenery is majestic

We spotted this presumably superyacht, and decided it should be called MV Womble

Porto Montenegro Marina was just a two mile hop across and we picked our moment between the rain showers and gusty wind, to move. It’s a very nice, much longer established marina than Portonovi. The shop units are taken, with various designer shops: Balenciaga, Max Mara, Alexander McQueen, Rolex to name a few. It has a nice vibe.

We were able to get the laundry done in the self service laundromat, at a reasonable price. Hurrah! We have clean clothes again.

Ancient ways, very close to the super modern

By evening the rain had started again and it continued all night. The locals are despairing of it. They all say that it should be getting dry now. In the morning, when the rain stopped, we found that the boat was covered in sand that the rain had deposited. After a quick rinse with the hose, it’s looking better. We can’t be turning up at the next swanky marina a dirty looking boat.

We enjoyed a very tasty dinner in one of the restaurants in a charming part of the town of Tivat. A lovely way to end the day.
