5 May 2023 - Herceg Novi, Montenegro
We built up quite a rapport with one of the ladies in the marina office. She was a little abrupt with us, when we turned up yesterday morning, asking where the laundry was. There is no laundry; they send the clothes out for a service wash. “Why didn’t you bring them yesterday?”, she said. Well, we only arrived at 7.00pm last night, was the reply. That made it ok. The laundry was duly done in time and we enjoyed a nice conversation while we checking out of the marina.
In contrast, the check out at the border control was not quite so much fun, but I better not say anymore about that, as we’re going to be asking them to let us back into Croatia again in a short while.
Two guys on an Amel boat checked out just after us and we were in a convoy motoring down the coast. There was no wind, but it was a sunny warm day. Even I got into my shorts.
First curtesy flag change in nearly a year, plus a Q flag for entry to a new country |
The entrance to the bay reminds of of Hurst Castle, there are similar fortifications on and island and the far entrance |
The interior looks spectacular |
It looks a little imposing approaching the industrial quay of Zelenica, but the Check In to Montenegro was an entirely different experience to the Check Out of Croatia, with a welcoming, smiling police officer sorting all the necessary requirements for us to enter the country. The customs lady was also very jolly and was delighted to hear that we had nothing to declare.
It is less than 2 miles across the bay to the old port of Herceg Novi, where we moored on the quay, assisted by a helpful marinaro. It’s an old traditional harbour, full of fishing boats and day tripper boats. By the time we were tied up, it was 6.30pm, a nice time to toast our arrival in a country we haven’t visited before.
