4 October 2023 - Syvota, Lefkada
It was pull up a very muddy anchor this morning and head back out off the channel into Vlycho. There is a great contrast between the manicured mansions on one side of the channel and the scruffy boat yards on the other.
The tranquil scene we woke to |
Once clear of the shallows, we headed further south towards Syvota, at the southern end of Lefkada Island. There was no wind except for the last mile, so we motored all the way. The half mile wide channel between Meganisi and Lefkada has, on some days, a weird weather phenomenon. The wind blows into the channel from each end, so that you can be going upwind, with another yacht going upwind but coming towards you. Fortunately nothing as confusing as this for us today.
Syvota is a pretty as Vlycho could have been. There are a range of pontoons owned by tavernas and anchorages. We had been recommended to at least 2 of these by friends, so had to make a choice. We plumped for one that offered free berthage, water, electricity and washrooms, so long as you eat at the taverna. A very good deal as the meal was excellent, not expensive and the restaurant is rated in the top 100 in Greece.
