15 May 2023 - Prcanj / Kotor
Another night and morning when the rain continued to pour down.
Ivan,
who runs to help services in the marina, helped us deal with the police
registration for the three of us, then drove us in the golf buggy to see the
Harbour Master, so she could amend our vinetta (sailing permit) to include
our guest. There is lots of bureaucracy to deal with, but the border police here
did allow us to pay the tourist tax for a month, rather than having to do it
piecemeal in every municipality.
Having
discovered some new sailing friends were also in the marina, we had a coffee
with Nigel and Fiona. It was great see them and exchange notes about our
experiences and plans.
There
was a break in the rain, for a couple of hours when we enjoyed motoring through
the narrow passage of the Prolaz Verige, which connects two large bays. We are
now in the inner sanctum, the Kotorski Zaliv. The scenery is spectacular, even
in this grey weather. The mountains drop steeply down to the water. The
villages hug the coastal slopes and there is just enough flat land for a narrow
road to run round the coast of the bay. We have moved here to put ourselves in
position to visit Kotor, hopefully tomorrow.
There are three cruise ships anchored in the bay, so it looks as though finding a day when the town is not full of people from them will be difficult. It’s obviously a regular destination on the Adriatic cruise route.
We had a lovely welcome from the staff of this small marina, with just one pontoon. The locals continue to be delightfully friendly.
