2 October 2023 - Vlycho, Lefkada

It was time to move on, and the perfect conditions for retrieving the shore lines, just enough wind from directly on the bow to keep us straight.  We had spent some time planning the process and preparing everything so that we would not have any trouble, and it all paid of handsomely. The engine was running and the anchor was ready to be lifted before I started to swim to the shore.  The lines were released in turn, and Tricia had pulled the first back on board by the time I was ready to release the second. The line was pulled back on board faster than I could swim, and the boat moved forward a bit as soon as it was released from the shore. Back on board, we could take up our usual positions, Tricia at the helm and me dealing with the anchor.  There was a lot of chain to pull in, but fortunately the boats that had been moored in the way a day or so previously had gone, and we had plenty of room to work with.

We had a very short day on the water, moving just seven miles to a completely enclosed bay on Lefkada. We took the scenic route, round the outside of all the islands and passing the island where Jackie Onasis had a cottage, for use when she wanted to get away from it all.  Apparently it is now owned by a Russian, and visitors are not welcomed.

The entrance to the channel, with Nidri to the right

The entrance to Vlycho is past the town of Nidri and down a fairly shallow channel, lined with boatyards.  Once inside the bay, which is surrounded by high mountains, there is plenty of space. We took the tender ashore for a walk and had a quiet drink in the Vlycho Yacht Club, very civilised.
