5 October 2023 - Syvota, Lefkada
At 5:00 yesterday it had been chaos, as multiple boats all tried to come in at the same time, some being very impatient. We had a lot of sympathy for the marinaro, who was absolutely brilliant at managing them all. We were fortunate to have arrived early and been given the best spot, directly at the end of the pontoon, where we could watch as the catamarans were manhandled into their berths.
The rather lovely fishing boat, which we think gets the fish for the restaurant |
In the morning the reverse procedure happened, with most of the inner boats not being able to leave until the outer ones had cleared out of the way. There was some confusion about our plan to stay for a second night, but the marinaros said it was possible but we would have to move. We chose a moment when there was no other activity and no wind to motor out and back, about 100 metres in total.
We decided to walk in the late afternoon, the choice of
route is not difficult as there is just one road around the bay. We could see
boats arriving again, and even from the other side of the bay, we could hear
screams of excitement coming from at least one of the boats. Not promising for
a peaceful night. When we arrived back it had quietened down a little, but there was
still one boat playing loud “music”(?), it’s traditional the guy said as if that
made it ok.
We discovered why the screaming had stopped, the culprits had all gone to the showers. By the
time we got there all of the hot water had been used so we resorted to the
shower on the boat, knowing that we had unlimited electricity and we could
refill the water tanks.
The view from our table for dinner. We could not have been closer to the water |
The night was quieter than we had feared. We were next to a boat with a group of German lads and one dad, who was the skipper, and a Danish registered boat. We must have collectively given a stern enough look to temper the exuberance of the noise makers.
