9 / 10 October 2023 - Preveza and Parga

A leisurely start and then an epic(?) voyage of about 1 mile from the anchorage to the marina.  We had originally planned to do this when the weather forecast said strong winds overnight on Sunday, but this had now been downgraded. However, our plan now relied on us going to the marina anyway, to get supplies, do some laundry and visit the Port Police to get a stamp in our Transit Log, so we went anyway.  When we arrived, the marinaro was very keen to get our lines as tight as possible, saying that there was strong wind expected. We assumed he had local knowledge again, but although there was wind, it was nothing to write home about.

Tuesday morning we ventured to the fish shop, knowing that they did takeaway meals, but regrettably, they were not going to be ready until 11:00, exactly the time we expected to be leaving.  We satisfied our needs by purchasing fresh fish from the good array that they had, and complimenting it with some salads that were ready.

We haven't done a fish shop photo for a while

The Ensign hasn't  flown like this for a while

We pulled out of Preveza and headed once more up the relatively narrow dredged channel. There was no wind and only a few other boats around, so all very easy.

For most of our journey there was no wind. We tried to sail a number of times, when a breeze started, but these soon died away and left us to rely on the support of the motor.  With about 3 miles to go, we concluded that even having the mainsail up was actually slowing us down, so furled it away.  Pretty well as soon as we had done this, the wind kicked in, and very soon we were seeing more than 16 knots of true wind.  Immensely frustrating.  There was no point in putting the sails up again, as we would be starting to take them down again at 2 miles to go.

We had wanted to visit Parga, which is a pretty town with a large Venetian Fortress on the headland to protect it. The plan was to visit the town on Wednesday morning, and we told the water taxi to cone and find us in the morning. The bay was large but fairly busy with at least 25 boats overnight.
